Sylmar, CA – Man Dies after Collision Involving Car and Tow Truck on Southbound Interstate 5 near 210 Freeway

Sylmar, CA (August 28, 2018) – The California Highway Patrol reported that a man died as the result of a violent collision involving a car and a tow truck on the southbound lanes of the Interstate 5 Freeway, in the vicinity of the 210 Freeway. Officers first logged the fatal accident at approximately 12:10 PM on Monday, August 27, 2018. At this time, police speculate the deceased victim may have been an Asian in his 30s. No detailed information concerning the identity of the fatality or the tow truck driver has been revealed.

Based on the initial report from CHP, the man had been driving his BMW 335i at high speed across the Interstate 5 Freeway when, for indeterminate reasons, the vehicle plowed into the rear end of a tow truck. Officials did not specify if the truck had been parked at the side of the freeway or had been traveling in front of the BMW.

Sometime later, firefighters arrived at the site and discovered the BMW had been pushed into the right portion of Lane 4. Initial reports indicate the vehicle had been leaking fuel. Officials confirmed the man had been trapped inside the wrecked vehicle as the result of the crash and did not respond to firefighters as they approached.

Afterward, authorities dispatched a coroner to the scene and released a SigAlert.

Officials did not reveal if anyone else was injured during the accident.
