Sunnyvale, CA – Santa Clara County Officials Identify Man Killed during Pedestrian Accident on South Pastoria Avenue and Iowa Avenue

Sunnyvale, CA (August 8, 2018) – Local authorities have recently provided updated information concerning the man who died as the result of a fatal pedestrian accident that took place in the area of South Pastoria Avenue and Iowa Avenue, in the vicinity of the Sunnyvale School District offices. The incident was first logged at approximately 10:50 PM at night last Saturday, August 4, 2018. As of now, the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner has identified the victim as 42-year old Sunnyvale resident Mark Klein.

Based on the original report, Klein had been walking near South Pastoria and Iowa when, for indeterminate reasons, an oncoming vehicle plowed into him. Sometime later, responding paramedics rushed to the crash site and discovered the victim lying on the roadway. Medical personnel attempted to revive Klein, but, sadly, he died from his injuries at the site.

Meanwhile, officials confirmed the driver involved in the accident stayed at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement.

As of now, the investigation continues. As more evidence begins to surface, more details will be released to public sources.

We extend our most heartfelt prayers and most loving thoughts to the family and friends of Mr. Mark Klein and wish them strength and peace of mind during this tragic, difficult time.

Fatal Pedestrian Accident in Santa Clara County

As indicated, officials are still attempting to piece together a potential cause for the accident. As part of the ongoing investigation, forensic teams will inspect the vehicle and examine photos of the crash site to determine if the driver had experienced mechanical failure or a system malfunction, forcing the vehicle out of control and into the path of the pedestrian. Likewise, officials will consider if drugs, alcohol, negligence, recklessness, or wrongdoing played any role in the events leading up to the crash.

By law, drivers are obliged to decrease the speed of their vehicles and provide the right of way to pedestrians along all areas of the roadway. Given the circumstances, officials have not officially revealed if the victim had been walking in a marked or unmarked zone near South Pastoria and Iowa prior to the accident.

The members of Mr. Klein’s family may have the option of pursuing a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver, pending the results of the investigation. By seeking legal intervention, these individuals can receive compensation for issues including funeral expenses and the tragic loss of a loved one.
