Sausalito, CA – Laura Lee Pino Killed in Highway 101 Collision

Sausalito, CA – (November 26, 2018) – Authorities have identified the woman killed in a car accident Saturday morning as Laura Lee Pino. The collision occurred just on Highway 101 just before 8 am near the Spencer Avenue off-ramp.

Per the initial report, two California Highway Patrol officers were headed northbound on the freeway when they discovered that a vehicle had spun out of control and was disabled blocking the slow lane.  The officers pulled behind the disabled vehicle to render aid to the driver. Pino was driving a 2003 Toyota Corolla approaching the vehicles when the car suddenly hydroplaned and crashed into the stopped CHP vehicle. Officers were placing flares at the scene when one of the officers noticed the oncoming vehicle and dived into the back of the CHP car before it was violently struck. Emergency crews immediately rushed to the scene and firefighters extricated Pino after discovering she was trapped in her vehicle. The officers’ involved sustained injuries and were treated at the scene. Pino was rushed to Marin General Hospital for treatment of major injuries. Sadly, she later succumbed to her injuries and died. Authorities believe the wet roadway and rainy conditions were contributing factors to the accident.

Officers are still investigating this accident.

We express our most heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of Laura Lee Pino. We cannot begin to understand the pain they are experiencing as they grieve the loss of their loved ones.  We wish them courage as they begin the grieving process. We also hope that the officers involved in this crash will make a full recovery in a timely fashion.

Multi-Vehicle Accidents in California

According to a recent study, rain causes more driving fatalities than snow in 39 out of 50 states. Wet conditions are common and drivers are often less cautious than they might be in winter weather. California drivers are at risk of impaired visibility and extremely slick roads when they drive in these wet conditions. Upon resolution of the investigation, the family of the deceased victim may be entitled to file a claim against the responsible party.
