Santa Barbara, CA – One Man Seriously Injured in Bicycle Crash on Gibraltar Road

Santa Barbara, CA (August 5, 2018) – A male bicycle rider was reportedly hospitalized following a crash between his bicycle and a motor vehicle on Gibraltar Road in Santa Barbara on Saturday afternoon, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department. The collision apparently transpired at approximately 5:00 p.m. in the 2900 block of Gibraltar Road.

According to the statements made by the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, the bicycle and one vehicle were the only ones involved in the collision. Firefighters stated that the bicyclist was struck while he was riding his bicycle along Gibraltar Road when, for reasons that are currently unknown, he collided with an oncoming vehicle. The head-on collision left the man with very serious injuries.

Emergency personnel arrived on the scene to assist the injured bicyclist. The man who is believed to be in his 50’s, was reportedly airlifted to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital to be treated. There was no more information made available in regards to the cause of this collision. Likewise, neither the name nor the specific condition of the victim has been released at this time. The California Highway Patrol is currently leading the investigation.
