San Francisco, CA – Medical Examiner’s Office Identifies Pedestrian Killed during Violent Collision on Greenwich Street in North Beach

San Francisco, CA (August 2, 2018) – Local authorities have recently provided updated information concerning the pedestrian who died during a violent collision that occurred in the 700 block of Greenwich Street in North Beach. The incident occurred at approximately 7:00 AM in the morning on Wednesday, August 1, 2018. As of today, the medical examiner’s office identified the victim as 48-year old Jonathan Jones. Meanwhile, no specific details about the motorist involved in the crash have been revealed.

As the original report confirmed, Jones had been walking in the North Beach neighborhood when, for indeterminate reasons, an oncoming vehicle struck him. Sometime later, responding police officers sadly declared that Jones had died at the crash site.

Authorities also affirmed the driver who sideswiped Jones stayed at the location and provided relevant information to authorities, as obliged by law.

Presently, investigators are looking into what caused this fatal accident. As more evidence continues to surface, more information will be released to public sources.

We extend our most heartfelt prayers and deepest condolences to the family and friends of Jonathan Jones and wish them strength and peace of mind during this difficult, tragic time.

Fatal Pedestrian Accident in San Francisco

As obliged by law, motorists are required to decrease the speed of their vehicles and provide the right of way to pedestrians in marked and unmarked crossing zones. Based on this report, officials are unsure if Mr. Jones had been walking in a safe area along Greenwich Street at the time of the accident.

Given the circumstances, many issues surrounding the collision remain unresolved. As part of the ongoing investigation, forensic teams will inspect the vehicle and examine photos of the crash site to determine if mechanical issues or system failure contributed to the crash in any way. Likewise, officials will consider if drugs, alcohol, negligence, recklessness, or distracted driving played any roles in the events leading up to the accident.

Depending on the final results of the investigation, the members of Jones’ family may have the right to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver. By seeking the assistance of a professional lawyer, these individuals can receive compensation for a variety of inconveniences ranging from funeral expenses to the tragic loss of a loved one.
