Sacramento, CA – Four Injured in Wrong-Way DUI Crash on 80 Freeway

Sacramento, CA (August 7, 2018) – A local and trustworthy news source reported a crash that resulted in four people injured in the westbound lanes of the I-80 Freeway. The crash that transpired near the Madison Avenue exit due to a wrong-way driver took place at approximately 6:30 p.m. Tuesday between two vehicles.

Authorities stated that a 22-year-old man who was operating a Chevrolet pickup truck turned onto the Madison Avenue on-ramp in the wrong direction. The man continued into the westbound lanes of the I-80 traveling east. The driver quickly realized he was heading in the wrong direction and attempted to make a U-turn in an effort to correct his mistake.

An SUV carrying a father and his two young daughters, 6 and 8, crashed into the pickup as it turned directly into the path of the vehicle. Following the collision, both the children, along with their father were suffering from serious injuries. The children were confirmed to have been properly restrained in their car seats, however, the 6-year-old girl is tragically suffering from life-threatening injuries at this time.

The driver of the pickup was also reported to have sustained relatively major injuries during the collision. The man was immediately transported to a trauma center, although he was also arrested on suspicion of DUI and will likely be taken into custody following his release from the hospital.
