Nicolaus, CA – Authorities Identify Truck Driver Involved in Fatal Semi-Truck Accident on Southbound Highway 99 near Yuba Sutter

Nicolaus, CA (August 13, 2018) – The California Highway Patrol recently provided updated information concerning the deceased driver and the injured driver involved in a fatal collision between a semi-truck and a motorhome that took place along southbound Highway 99 (Laurel Avenue) near Powerline Road, in the area of Yuba Sutter. The violent accident occurred shortly after 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 11, 2018. As of today, authorities have identified the truck driver as 64-year old Sacramento resident Eric Doppelmayr. No additional details about the identity of the 86-year old Fairfield man who died in the crash have been revealed at this time.

According to the CHP report, Doppelmayr had been driving a 2010 Freightliner south on 99 at the same time the 86-year old man from Fairfield was driving a 2004 Bound north along the same route. The driver of the motorhome tried to execute a U-turn and swerved into direct path of the semi-truck.

For indeterminate reasons, the 86-year old did not see the oncoming semi-truck, and the Bound plowed into the Freightliner as a result. As a result of the collision, the unidentified 86-year old flew from the vehicle and crashed onto the ground. Authorities sadly pronounced him dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, medical personnel brought Doppelmayr to UC Davis Medical Center to receive treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

As part of initial investigations and cleanup procedures, officials blocked off the junction of Highway 99 and Powerline road for approximately six hours.

Presently, the investigation is still ongoing.

We extend our most heartfelt prayers and our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the 86-year old victim and wish them strength and peace of mind during this difficult, tragic time.

Fatal Semi-Truck and Motor Home Collision in Sutter County

As the report indicates, certain aspects of the crash still remain unknown. As part of the ongoing investigation, officials will consider if drugs, alcohol, or negligence contributed to the crash in any way. Likewise, forensic teams will inspect the Freightliner and the Bound and examine photos of the crash site to determine if mechanical issues or system failure contributed to the crash in any way.

Depending on the final results of the crash, the members of the deceased victim’s family may have the right to file a wrongful death lawsuit and, ultimately, receive compensation for unfortunate circumstances including funeral expenses and the tragic loss of a loved one.
