Newman, CA – Woman and Child Suffer Major Injuries in Crash
Newman, CA (August 18, 2018) – A woman and her daughter were both seriously injured Thursday afternoon. Police and emergency crews responded to a crash scene at the intersection of River Road and Hills Ferry Road just after 1:30 pm on Thursday. Upon arrival, crews discovered that a Saturn and a big rig had been involved in a crash just moments earlier.
The Saturn, operated by 32 year old Brittainy Maiki came to the intersection and stopped at a stop sign while attempting to make a left turn. Maiki proceeded into the intersection to make the left turn when the her vehicle was suddenly struck by a big rig. The big rig was traveling in the westbound lanes. It is not clear exactly why the two vehicles collided at the intersection
Brittainy was airlifted to the hospital with fractures to her leg and hip. Her 4 year old daugter, Jasmin, was also hurt in the crash and was also airlifted to the hospital with a head injury. There is no indication if the injuries are life-threatening.
Police were on scene for some period of time following the crash. There is no information available regarding which driver may be responsible for the accident.
