Merced, CA – Authorities Identify Truck Driver Injured after Suspected Hit-and-Run Accident on Northbound Highway 99 near Mission Boulevard

Merced, CA (August 22, 2018) – Recently, authorities provided updated information concerning the truck driver who sustained injuries after a suspected hit-and-run accident that took place along the northbound lanes of Highway 99, in the vicinity of Mission Boulevard. Officers initially logged the collision at approximately 5:40 AM on Tuesday, August 21, 2018. As of today, the victim has been identified as 50-year old Jose Cruz Sandoval Pozos.

Based on the report from the California Highway Patrol, Pozos had been driving a 2009 Peterbilt Foster Farms semi-truck north on 99 when, for indeterminate reasons, a sedan clipped him. As a result of the collision, the Peterbilt swerved out of control and overturned on the main road.

Officials sadly reported that multiple turkeys died and sustained injuries during the impact.

Meanwhile, Pozos was brought to Mercy Hospital, where he received treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Police did confirm the sedan involved in the crash temporarily paused after clipping the Peterbilt but ultimately left the scene of the accident. Officers have speculated the suspect vehicle could be a blue Honda.

At this time, the investigation is ongoing.

Authorities have obliged civilians holding information valuable to the case to contact the Merced California Highway Patrol at (209) 356-6600.

We extend our most heartfelt prayers and our most loving thoughts to Mr. Jose Cruz Sandoval Pozos and wish him a swift and efficient recovery from his injuries.

Hit-and-Run Accident in Merced

By law, drivers involved in an accident are required to remain at the scene and cooperate with authorities. Fleeing a crash site is considered a cowardly, criminal act that can result in severe punishment, including charges of felony hit-and-run. Based on this information, the suspect driver could be held fully responsible for causing this deadly accident and inflicting injuries on an innocent driver.

Once the case is resolved, the truck driver may have the right to file a personal injury lawsuit against the culprit and, ultimately, receive compensation for multiple inconveniences including painful injuries, medical bills, and vehicle damage.
