Long Beach, CA – Bicyclist Hit and Killed by Pickup Truck on Seventh Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue

Long Beach, CA (August 2, 2018) – A bicyclist was struck and killed by a pickup truck on Seventh Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue Thursday morning, according to a report filed by Long Beach Police. The fatal accident that reportedly took place primarily on Seventh Street was reported to have occurred at around 6:40 a.m.

The initial reports have stated that the bicyclist rode out from Gumbiner Park, west of Alamitos and was struck by the pickup truck while crossing northbound through Seventh Street. Paramedics were immediately called to the scene of the accident in order to provide aid to the severely injured victim. The male bicyclist was reportedly rushed to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was, unfortunately, pronounced dead a short time after his arrival.

Witnesses apparently told authorities that the driver of the pickup had the green light just before the accident. The driver remained at the scene in order to cooperate with police. No more information has been provided in regards to the cause of this fatal collision, and the name of the victim has not been released. Authorities are currently conducting a full investigation into all aspects of this accident.
