Keene, California (November 5, 2018) – Officials have confirmed, a man was struck and killed by a vehicle Sunday night while walking along Highway 58 in Keene, just south of Bakersfield. The fatal accident transpired at approximately 9:15 pm Sunday, November 4th on Highway 58.

According to the California Highway Patrol, an unidentified man was walking on the right shoulder of westbound Highway 58 wearing dark colored clothing when for reasons that are still being investigated, he stepped onto the roadway and directly into the path of an oncoming 2018 Ford. Pedestrian Accidents in California

Traffic accidents involving pedestrians usually result in severe injury or death. Motor vehicles are required by law, to control speeds and give the pedestrian the right away regardless if the pedestrian is in a marked or unmarked crossing zone. As part of an ongoing investigation, forensic teams will examine the vehicle as well as look at any photographs that might have been taken at the crash site. This will help authorities determine who was at fault. The final results of the investigation will determine if a family member may have the right to file a wrongful death lawsuit.
