Fairfield, CA – Authorities Identify Driver Responsible for Deaths of Police Officer and Civilian on Northbound 80 Freeway near Manuel Campos Parkway

Fairfield, CA (August 16, 2018) – Recently, a local news source provided updated information concerning the driver responsible for the deaths of two people, including a police officer. The tragic collision happened along the northbound 80 Freeway a little after 9:00 AM last Friday, August 10, 2018. As of today, the culprit has been identified as 38-year old Rocklin resident Sean Matthew Walker.

As explained in the original report, 46-year old Kirk Griess, a California Highway Patrol Officer, had completed a traffic enforcement stop on 49-year old Jaime Bueza Manuel, who was driving a Saturn SUV at the time. Sources confirmed the vehicles had stopped along the right shoulder of the freeway, near Manuel Campos Parkway.

Simultaneously, Walker was driving a Chevrolet Pickup along the 80 Freeway when, for indeterminate reasons, he veered off the road and careened toward the right shoulder. Without warning, the oncoming truck slammed into the parked Saturn and, ultimately, Griess and Manuel. Sometime later, both victims were transported to a nearby hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries and died.

As of now, Walker is being held at the Solano County Jail and faces two separate charges of vehicular manslaughter.

We extend our most heartfelt prayers and our deepest condolences to the families and friends of CHP Officer Griess and Jaime Bueza Manuel and wish them strength and peace of mind during this tragic, difficult time.

Fatal Traffic Accident in Solano County

Given the circumstances, Mr. Walker is being held responsible for causing the violent crash and inflicting fatal injuries on a police officer and a civilian. As part of the ongoing investigation, officials will consider if the culprit had consumed drugs or alcohol prior to operating the vehicle or had simply failed to comply with basic traffic laws.

Pending the results of the case, the members of Officer Griess’ and Manuel’s families may have the right to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the driver. By seeking legal intervention, these individuals can receive compensation for the tragic loss of a loved one, funeral expenses, and additional unfortunate circumstances.
