Discovery Bay, CA – Seven People Injured in DUI Accidents on CA-4

Discovery Bay, California (November 4, 2018) – According to local authorities, seven people sustained injuries as a result of two separate collisions Sunday night in Discovery Bay. The first accident transpired at approximately 5:12 pm Sunday evening on November 3rd, on eastbound Highway 4, just east of the County Highway J4 intersection.

The initial report indicates, a white Subaru and a motorcyclist were traveling on Highway 4 heading eastbound when, for reasons that are still being investigated, the vehicle struck the motorcyclist. The woman driving the vehicle has been identified as 33-year-old Kathleen Campbell. After Campbell struck the rider she failed to stop to render aid and instead fled east on Highway 4. Campbell then reportedly crashed head-on into a Saturn sedan in the westbound lanes, about 500 feet from the first collision. Ground ambulances and helicopters were dispatched to the scene to attend to the injured parties. The motorcyclist suffered severe injuries and five occupants in the sedan also sustained severe injuries. Seven people were transported to local hospitals including John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek and Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley. Officials confirmed, Campbell also suffered injuries as a result of the collision. He was arrested at the scene of the second crash site on suspicion of felony DUI. Emergency crews closed Highway 4 in both directions to give way to clearing and rescue operations.

We feel so sad to learn that so many people were injured in this completely unavoidable accident that occurred as a result of the thoughtless actions of one person.  We know that the injuries that were incurred as a result of this accident were catastrophic in nature by the manner in which the injured were transported to the hospital.  Our hearts break for all of the innocent victims whose lives may be forever changed because of this crash.  We wish all victims and their loved ones the very best and pray that everyone will be able to fully recover from this senseless crash.  We are available to answer any questions you may have about the legal process ahead.

DUI Hit and Run Accidents in California

Drivers that are involved in traffic accidents are required by law to stay at the crash site and wait for authorities to arrive. Leaving the scene of an accident, especially one that results in injury, is considered cowardly and is a criminal act that often results in serious charges such as felony hit-and-run.  In this case, the driver was arrested and charged with felony hit and run.

Police will continue to conduct a full investigation into the circumstances that led up to this multi-vehicle accident. All aspects of the scene will be evaluated including speaking with any eyewitnesses in the area and looking surveillance videos from businesses that are located near the scene of the accident.
