Desert Center, California – Traffic Accident on Highway 62 Claims One Life

Desert Center, California (July 2, 2018) – Local news sources reported that a man died during a traffic accident that took place on Highway 62 in the vicinity of Highway 177, near Desert Center. The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 PM at night on Friday, June 29, 2018. Authorities have identified the deceased victim as Jose Antonio Gutierrez-Avila. Meanwhile, police have not identified the name of the second deceased victim or the names of the wounded individuals from both cars at this time.

Based on the police report, two vehicles were traveling down Highway 62. For indeterminate reasons, both cars suddenly collided near Highway 177. Teams of paramedics arrived at the scene and had to extract two victims from each car. As a result of the impact, both vehicles sustained heavy damage to each front end.

Both extracted victims, Gutierrez-Avila among them, tragically died at the crash site. At the same time, two surviving passengers were transported via air ambulance to a nearby hospital, where they receive treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

As of now, the investigation is ongoing.
