The incident occurred around 10:15 PM at night on Tuesday, July 24, 2018. At this time, no detailed information concerning the identities of the bicyclist and the motorist involved in the crash has been revealed.

According to a report from Bakersfield Police, an unidentified person was riding a bicycle in the Bakersfield area when, for indeterminate reasons, an oncoming vehicle struck this individual at Monterey and Haley. Based on this information, many issues surrounding the accident remain unresolved. As part of the ongoing investigation, forensic teams will examine photos of the crash site and examine both vehicles to determine if mechanical issues or system failure contributed to the accident. Likewise, officials may consider if DUI, distracted driving, or recklessness played any roles in the events leading up to the collision on Monterey and Haley.

If investigators prove the accident was a direct cause of negligence on part of the motorist, the bicyclist can potentially file a personal injury lawsuit and, ultimately, receive compensation for inconveniences including medical bills and painful injuries.
